Used to test internal thread products, threaded plug gages usually have both GO and NOHGO parts. To distinguish between the two, the GO part is longer and includes an easy-to-clean chip slot in a larger size. If no significant force is applied, the part that is done will be fully connected to the tolerable nut. Before binding, the NOHGO section will not be able to carry out more than three “good” parts. When a part passes the GO test, the hole is large enough to accept its matching axis without undue stress. When it fails in the NOHGO test, the hole is small enough to allow a strong, tight body. These conditions must be met within the specified tolerances.

In contrast, ring gages tests the accuracy of external threaded parts.
